Job Summary

This is a professional, 12‑month, full‑time, live‑in position in the Office of Housing and Residence Life. Primary responsibility is for all management functions essential for successful student engagement in a residential community. The position oversees residence life programming that enhances the personal development of students, with an emphasis on leadership, civic responsibility, and student learning outcomes. It also coordinates residence life operations for an assigned residence hall and enforces residence life policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

Student Engagement, Support and Crisis Management (45%)
  • Develop, support, and sustain positive residential living communities by assisting staff and students with conflict resolution, problem solving, and mediation.
  • Implement student engagement models to support retention and graduation initiatives.
  • Work with individual students in the resolution of personal, social, or academic problems in consultation with university partners.
  • Participate in planning and implementation of Living Learning Communities and Themed Housing communities for assigned residence hall.
  • Contribute to continuous assessment and improvement of housing and residence life policies, programs, and practices.
  • Serve on departmental and institutional committees and task forces designed to drive student engagement across campus and participate in professional development activities.
  • Support campus-wide initiatives including open houses, orientation, new student convocation, welcome events, spirit weeks, and enrollment management events.
  • Participate in daily on‑call rotation to provide 24/7 after‑hours support for the residential community.
  • Maintain accessibility to staff and residents beyond traditional office hours.
  • Develop an on‑call schedule for each building staff member to ensure continuous supervision.
  • Educate residents of university rules, regulations, and consequences of infractions.
  • Support a safe and secure living environment through consistent policy enforcement and intervention strategies.
  • Serve as a hearing officer for low to mid‑level violations of the Code of Student Conduct and Resident Student Handbook.
  • Serve as a Campus Security Authority (CSA).
Building Management and Operations (45%)
  • Directly supervise a team of Resident Assistants and Community Assistant.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings to ensure effective student support and building operations.
  • Communicate with staff to exchange ideas, solve problems, and discuss ideas.
  • Recruit, select, and train Resident Assistants and Community Assistant.
  • Conduct regular walks and inspections of assigned residential facilities and communicate with university facilities staff and residents on repair and maintenance issues.
  • Assist in addressing facilities issues that compromise health or safety of residential students immediately according to established protocols.
  • Monitor maintenance log sheet.
  • Maintain accurate key records.
  • Utilize Star Rez software platform for effective occupancy management related to the assigned residential community.
  • Conduct student check‑ins and check‑outs at the beginning and end of each semester, and as room changes occur.
  • Maintain residence hall and student records.
  • Consolidate student room assignments and report room changes.
  • Foster leadership development among student staff and provide ongoing performance evaluations and professional growth opportunities.
  • Summer work may include but is not limited to support in central office, working orientation events, preparing for opening, support for summer camps and conferences, and other duties as assigned.
Responds and Maintains Positive Relationships with the Community;
Collaborates with Other Departments in Implementing a Broad Spectrum of Initiatives (10%)
  • Engage in professional development opportunities and attend trainings, workshops, and conferences.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
