Job SummaryThis position is responsible for assisting in the provision of services to students with temporary and permanent accessibility issues. The primary location for this position is the Macon campus but employee may be asked to travel to other campuses as needed.
Responsibilities Accessibility Duties and Responsibilities (50%)- Assist in the coordination of the day-to-day operations of Accessibility Services offices on the campuses of Middle Georgia State University.
- Provides students with academic, career and personal counseling.
- Assesses students' psycho-educational reports in order to determine academic assistance needs.
- Maintains records of student sessions.
- Provides appropriate community referrals to students, faculty and other university personnel.
- Investigates problems, situations and complaints related to accessibility services and mobility issues on campus.
- Recommends and implements new policies and procedures.
- Implements and coordinates training and development programs for students.
- Assist in the maintenance of the Accessibility Services Web site.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
- Provides developmental counseling, consultation and support programs for students with accessibility issues.
- Supports students with the evaluation of admission withdrawals, deferrals and transfers.
- Provides emergency assistance to students as needed.
- Identifies as a Campus Security Authority (CSA)
Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.
OtherRequired Qualifications
Knowledge, understanding, and experience of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Required ExperienceSufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities- Knowledge of the principles and practices of accessibility services in the context of higher education.
- Knowledge of University System of Georgia Board of Regents policies, and procedures.
- Knowledge of federal and state laws related to accessibility (disability) services.
- Skill in the operation of computers and job related software programs.
- Skill in decision making and problem solving.
- Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
