Mercer University School of Medicine seeks a highly qualified Director of Faculty Affairs and Professional Development on the Macon, GA campus.
ResponsibilitiesThe Director of Faculty Affairs and Professional Development provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for faculty affairs functions across all Mercer University School of Medicine campuses. Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs, the Director manages office logistics and faculty processes including recruitment, onboarding, appointments, promotion and tenure, evaluation, governance, faculty development, and accreditation reporting. This role exercises independent judgment in the development and interpretation of faculty policies, oversees faculty data systems and performance metrics, and serves as a key liaison to academic leadership, Human Resources, Finance, and the Dean’s Office.
The Director designs, implements, and evaluates faculty development initiatives across undergraduate, graduate, and continuing medical education programs and supports institutional planning, compliance, and continuous improvement efforts in a complex academic medical environment.
A bachelor’s degree in Higher Education, Adult Education, Human Resources, Communications or related field and three years of progressively responsible experience in faculty affairs, academic administration, healthcare administration, or a related area OR a master’s degree and one year of aforementioned experience are required. A valid driver’s license is also required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with senior leadership, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders across a complex academic medical environment.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and influence across diverse stakeholder groups while advancing institutional initiatives.
- Ability to independently develop, analyze, and present reports incorporating goals, performance metrics, and data‑driven insights to support strategic decision‑making.
- Ability to develop and deliver effective presentations in both in‑person and virtual settings.
- Demonstrated experience in process improvement, policy development, and project management within complex organizations.
- Advanced analytical skills, including the ability to design and manage data systems and translate information into actionable insights.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and exercise discretion in handling highly sensitive and confidential information.
- Working knowledge of budgeting, financial planning, and resource management.
- Ability to operate with a high degree of autonomy, exercising independent judgment aligned with institutional objectives.
- Proficiency with databases, spreadsheets, and reporting tools.
- Ability to responsibly leverage AI‑enabled platforms to enhance analysis and operational efficiency.
- Ability to travel independently for infrequent work‑related assignments, meetings, trainings, or site visits (approximately 2‑4 days per academic year).
