Job Title

Teacher, Roberts Academy – 3rd grade

Location

Macon, GA 31207

Responsibilities
  • Engage elementary‑age students with dyslexia in action‑oriented learning that combines auditory, visual, and kinesthetic elements to teach basic concepts of reading, writing, and spelling across the curriculum using the Orton‑Gillingham approach.
  • Creatively adapt and implement lessons and materials, use varied instructional resources and strategies, and apply relevant technology to meet the varying needs of dyslexic students.
  • Promote the school’s positive culture by collaborating with colleagues and parents, encouraging student engagement and decorum.
  • Monitor and communicate students’ progress and successes.
  • Actively participate in the school’s ongoing professional development program.
  • Become a member of the Orton‑Gillingham Academy.
  • Support the mission of the Roberts Academy at Mercer University and its leadership.
  • Develop, plan, and implement curriculum, lesson plans, and educational programs for student audiences within areas of expertise.
  • Advise, test, and teach student audiences in a variety of academic subjects.
  • Present and reinforce learning concepts within a specified subject or subject area.
Qualifications
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Elementary Education, Special Education, or a related field.
  • Two years of successful experience teaching elementary‑age students.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain positive and proactive relationships with teachers, administrators, and parents.
  • Experience with and knowledge of dyslexia and other language‑based learning disabilities.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • — Preferred —
  • Hold a master’s degree or higher in Elementary Education, Special Education, or a related field.
  • Current Georgia teaching certificate.
  • Three years or more of successful experience teaching elementary‑age students with dyslexia.
  • Knowledge of the Orton‑Gillingham approach and/or other dyslexia‑related remediation approaches.
  • Background check.
