Job Description

Summary Description of Classification: Under general supervision, the school representative ensures that students maximize their time in the school each period, each day. The SEF will focus specifically on tardy counts and student attendance. The SEF will investigate chronic tardy counts and prolonged attendance cases. The primary objective of SEF is to ensure that students miss three days or less per semester, attend class regularly, and attend class on time.

Students who miss extended periods of time shall be recommended to the district truancy court with documentation of the student remediation plan. The SEF will use observational skills to remain aware of changes in the behavior and physical condition of parents and students. The SEF will function as a community outreach contact, for parents, to increase parental involvement in the Bibb County School District.

Reviews and implements the 360-degree strategies and goals developed by BCPS and the Georgia Department of Education.

Reports to: Principal

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
  • Competent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient technology application.
  • Awareness of basic knowledge regarding curriculum and instructional practices.
  • Ability to observe, demonstrate and guide classroom teachers in implementing and monitoring effective parenting skills.
Education, Training and Experience
  • Experience working with parental and/or family engagement is desired.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of college is preferred.
  • Trained in PBIS.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assists supervisor and other program staff with parent program presentations and/or special program initiatives as they relate to parental involvement.
  • Assists supervisor and teacher with students regularly attending class on time.
    • Monitors student attendance and discipline data daily and administers school-based PBIS and progressive discipline plan for students out of compliance.
    • Uses resources in the student engagement room to redirect misbehaviors that appear frequently.
    • Ensures that students are redirected quickly, efficiently and return to their regular scheduled day.
  • Redirects students that have exhibited minor behavior infractions disrupting the instructional setting.
    • Engages students in reflective dialogue and activities in the student engagement room to eliminate unacceptable behaviors.
    • Influences change in student behavior before the start of the next period.
    • Documents and monitors infractions caused by the student and ensures that RTI, BIP, restorative practices and other interventions are followed effectively.
    • Presents documentation that considers the child chronic and persistent before recommending a child for ISS, OSS and/or an evidentiary hearing.
  • Completes documentation of parent/student progress.
    • Assists supervisor and program staff in documenting parent/student progress on learning objectives at regular scheduled intervals, and absenteeism and chronic tardiness via phone calls.
    • Consistently complies with department rules, regulations and policies on Title I and school-based parent activities.
    • Facilitates restorative circles and parent modules.
  • Provides administrative support to district’s parental involvement program as directed.
    • Learns to effectively coordinate activities necessary to carry out assigned function(s).
    • Assists in conducting research using a variety of resources to generate reports and respond to requests.
    • Completes tasks and assignments associated with assigned functions in a timely manner and in accordance with applicable policies, procedures and guidelines.
    • Learns to appropriately resolve or facilitate the resolution of problems in a courteous and effective manner.
    • Keeps supervisor or other appropriate staff adequately informed of problems, irregularities, issues, and concerns pertaining to assigned function(s).
  • Receives, screens and responds to telephone and electronic communication.
  • Greets and assists internal and external customers.
Salary / Terms / Benefits
  • 195-day work year; 8-hours per day. Grade 117E.
