Job DescriptionJOB SUMMARY To plan for and to provide appropriate learning experiences, interventions and educational opportunities for each student assigned to the in‑school suspension program.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICSThis job has no supervisory responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS- Provides instruction and leadership to assigned students in the In School Suspension program.
- Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
- Coordinates with teachers, administrators, counselors, as necessary.
- Provides instructional assistance and support for students in completing their classroom assignment; instructs and monitors students' progress.
- Conducts small group or individual classroom activities based on lesson plans developed by the teacher.
- Observes child behavior and reports observations as necessary.
- Assists students with classwork; works with children in need of special attention on an individual basis as needed.
- Performs clerical tasks and duties as necessary.
- Works for the betterment of the students in the In School Suspension classroom.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in applicable field of education from an accredited college or university and meet the GAPSC requirement for certification. Experience in providing individual and small group instruction preferred.
KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of Georgia Standards of Excellence curriculum.
- Knowledge of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports Framework.
- Knowledge of different learning strategies and is able to adapt them to maximize student learning opportunities.
- Ability to use technology effectively.
- Ability to work with students by implementing lesson plans.
- Ability to instruct, give directions to, and provide guidance to students.
- Ability to deal courteously and diplomatically with students, teachers, parents and school employees.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to work under close supervision.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Good organizational skills.
- Dedicated to providing quality education to students.
- Ability to exhibit patience and calmness under pressure.
- GaPSC Clearance Certification
- Must possess or have the ability to obtain GaPSC certification
1. 190 day work year.
2. Salary based on certification and experience; placement on the Adopted Salary Schedule and position supplement(s).
