CCPD Student Assistant for Handshake Services (Fall 2026 - Spring 2027)
Position within the Center for Career & Professional Development.
Schedule:
18 hours per week, $10-$11 per hour.
- General Office: Communicate with staff, faculty, employers, alumni, and students via phone, email, Teams, and face‑to‑face interactions.
- Answer all incoming phone calls, assist and direct callers, and deliver messages.
- Assist CCPD career consultants and counselors with special student‑centered topics and projects.
- Monitor and maintain the Student Assistant email account, responding accordingly.
- Assist the Office Manager with on‑campus errands, proctoring exams, and miscellaneous departmental tasks.
- Handshake Guidance: Provide guidance to students and alumni on using Handshake, schedule appointments, register for events, upload resumes, apply for opportunities, and other functions, including desktop and mobile features.
- Look up and/or enter information into Handshake.
- Provide guidance to employers via phone and email related to Handshake, including connecting with Mercer University for campus recruiting, posting opportunities and events, and communicating with students/alumni via the platform.
- Ambassador and Advocate: Learn all about the services and events offered by the CCPD and act as a motivational voice in the campus community regarding career development, CCPD, and Handshake.
- Actively promote services and events to the campus community through word of mouth, email, group texts, and social media.
- Distribute and remove event flyers, posters, signage around campus.
- Provide feedback to the CCPD team about student needs and happenings.
- Campus Events: Assist CCPD staff with behind‑the‑scenes preparation for successful campus recruiting and career education events (workshops, webinars, information sessions, employer panels, career expos and fairs, campus interviews).
- Active Handshake account and basic understanding of the platform.
- Excellent communication skills, strong work ethic, and a desire to model career development for students.
- Comfortable and poised speaking with and working with people.
- Technology savvy, including desktop and mobile devices.
- Ability to walk around or maneuver across campus and lift/move items up to 20 lbs.
- Approved for Federal Work Study through the Office of Student Employment; eligibility verified prior to offer.
- Schedule:

08/06/2026; end date: 05/12/2027.
