Job DetailsMercer University School of Medicine is searching for a tenure track faculty position for the Chair of the Department of Biomedical Sciences on the Macon campus.
This is a 12-month, full-time, tenure-track appointment. Rank to be determined based on the credentials of the selected candidate. Candidates must meet the standards for tenure and rank in the department. Candidates must have a track record of lead author publications in peer-reviewed journals and plans for establishing an independent research program. Should have a strong track record in externally funded research.
Must establish and maintain a vigorous, extramurally funded research program in their area of expertise, and contribute to teaching graduate and/or medical students associated with the Department of Biomedical Sciences. Mercer University School of Medicine is a community-based medical school that educates health professionals to provide care in rural, medically underserved areas of Georgia ((Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).).
- Duties include:
Provide leadership and administration of the Department of Biomedical Sciences on all three MUSM campuses - Serve as a liaison to all committees or groups as needed or assure representation from the department of Biomedical Sciences
- Support the departmental faculty with emphasis on their responsibilities for the educational and research programs
- Participate in on-going readiness for accreditation and ensure that the Department of Biomedical Sciences participates in continuous quality improvement
- Teach Biomedical Sciences in both small and large group settings
- Manage Biomedical Sciences faculty to include making sure there are adequate faculty designated to teach both large and small groups
- Participate and collaborate in research activity and with national organizations that maintain and enhance administrative and educational skills in Biomedical Sciences education and administration
- Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a biomedical science from an accredited college/university.
- Mission-focused leadership experience.
- A record of excellence in research.
- A commitment to excellence in medical education.
- Familiarity and/or experience with rural areas.
- Current extramural research funding is highly desirable.
- Experience in teaching Biomedical Sciences to medical students.
- Experience in small group, team-based, interdisciplinary teaching, and student evaluation.
- Administrative experience and the ability to manage department finances, academic, administrative, and personnel matters.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
- Commitment to develop a rural research focus both personally, with other faculty, and students.
- Familiarity and experience with rural Georgia.
