- Lead QC/QA plan assessments at key GDOT project milestones including Concept Reports, Preliminary Field Plan Reviews (PFPR), Field Plan Reviews (FPR), and Final Plans, Specifications, & Estimates (PS&E).
- Supervise comparable review stages for locally administered and municipal projects, providing thorough written and verbal feedback to design teams ahead of agency submissions.
- Ensure all LAP project deliverables meet local agency standards and GDOT/FHWA compliance requirements, including the provisions outlined in the LAP Manual and necessary right-of-way certification processes.
- Create and uphold internal QC procedures, design checklists, and review workflows tailored for both GDOT state-funded projects and the GDOT LAP program.
- Proactively identify design inaccuracies, omissions, and constructability challenges prior to submission to reviewing agencies.
- Promptly address review comments from GDOT District, GDOT Office of Engineering Services, and local agencies with well-founded technical responses.
- Assist in design work for city and county clients on locally funded projects outside the LAP framework, ensuring adherence to applicable local standards, ADA requirements, and PROWAG guidelines.
- Facilitate interdisciplinary reviews encompassing traffic engineering, structures, NEPA/environmental considerations, utilities, and right-of-way disciplines.
- Guide and mentor mid-level and junior engineers on GDOT and local agency design standards and best practices for plan production.
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
- Current Professional Engineer (PE) license in Georgia or eligibility to obtain it through reciprocity prior to start.
- A minimum of 12-15 years of progressive roadway design experience, particularly with GDOT-let projects and locally administered projects for Georgia municipalities and counties.
- In-depth knowledge of GDOT design standards, plan sheet specifications, and project development processes, particularly related to the LAP program.
- Expertise in geometric design, horizontal and vertical alignment, intersection and interchange design, pavement design, grading, drainage, and signing and pavement marking.
- Experience with GDOT Design Variances and Design Exceptions.
- Proficient in Micro Station and Open Roads Designer.
- Remarkable attention to detail with the capability to identify technical challenges across complex, multi-sheet plan sets created under diverse agency standards.
- Thorough understanding of GDOT reviewer expectations, comment resolution practices, and inter-office coordination methods.
- Adept at navigating the various requirements, cultures, and stakeholder dynamics of local agency clients, from large metropolitan counties to smaller municipalities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to offer constructive technical feedback diplomatically under tight deadlines.
- Collaborative leadership skills with the capacity to manage simultaneous QC reviews across multiple active GDOT and local projects.
