Position OverviewWe are seeking a Design Engineer for our First Quality Baby Products site located in Macon, GA. The role focuses on using 2‑D and 3‑D CAD systems to design machine sub‑assemblies and oversee fabrication and installation to support production and improvement projects.
Key Responsibilities- Use manufacturing experience and equipment/process knowledge to create machine sub‑assembly designs that solve problems and support production, product development, and engineering improvement projects.
- Oversee outside fabrications and final installations to ensure desired results are achieved.
- Work with product development and process engineering to prepare CAD documentation for product changes using limited sketches.
- Prepare architectural building and equipment arrangement CAD drawings for building modifications, compliance permitting, office changes, and new buildings.
- Maintain and improve drawing control and management systems to protect intellectual property.
- Interpret sketches and specifications from customers to create conceptual designs.
- Ensure designs can be fabricated, maintained, and operated efficiently and safely.
- Communicate project status using Infor and other tools; manage timelines and commitments.
- Oversee internal 3D printing, outside fabrications, and on‑site trade contractors.
- Interact with OEMs and specialty suppliers to define improvement requirements.
- BS degree in 3‑D product/machine design or equivalent experience; or AS degree in CAD or design disciplines with 3–5 years of experience.
- Formal 2‑D and 3‑D CAD training with knowledge of metal machining, finishing operations, component plating, fabrication and assembly procedures, materials selection, mechanical cams and linkages, pneumatics, mechanical drive transmission design, rotating assembly dynamic balancing, high precision assemblies, and general part dimensioning.
- Clear communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience overseeing outside machine shop fabrications and on‑site trade contractors.
- Ability to learn new machinery operations quickly and assist others in troubleshooting and providing design improvements.
- Strong multi‑project management skills in a fast‑paced 24/7 manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in CAD and related office applications.
