Job SummaryThis position supports public safety in various roles of emergency preparedness, clery compliance, risk management and critical incident response.
Responsibilities- Duty 1 - Plans, develops, implements and maintains emergency preparedness program best practices and related initiatives for the University, in accordance with National, State, and local emergency preparedness requirements and standards.
- Duty 2 - Serves as primary emergency management liaison with various EMA coordinators, fire departments, EMS, public health and other EMA appropriate counterparts.
- Duty 3 - Responds (24/7) to and manages various emergency situations campus-wide, as they arise.
- Duty 4 - Supports Risk Management with claims and responses to critical incidents.
- Duty 5 - Develops, plans, leads, and/or participates in educational, training, and campus outreach activities, to include program development and presentation of lectures and/or workshops.
- Duty 6 - Recruits, assigns and trains building coordinators for emergency response.
- Duty 7 - Creates and manages formal Emergency Response planning documents.
- Duty 8 - Develops plans for business continuity, pre-emergency organization and fire prevention programs.
- Duty 9 - Recommends and participates in the development of university procedures; implements and maintains University certifications and designations related to emergency preparedness.
- Duty 10 - Conducts safety audits and inspections where needed.
- Duty 11 - Plans, develops, implements, and evaluates drills and table‑top exercises to ensure University‑wide emergency management preparedness.
- Duty 12 - Trains and/or coordinates classes in first aid, CPR and AED use.
- Duty 13 - Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a concentration in emergency management, criminal justice, public safety or public administration; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
- Possess Georgia Certified Emergency manager (GACEM) designation or complete and maintain certification within twelve months of employment.
- Possess First Aid/CPR/AED trainer certification from an accredited organization or complete and maintain those certifications within 6 months of employment.
- Must be able to perform all duties, services, and functions of a 24/7 Emergency Preparedness Coordinator.
- Must be available for 24/7 emergency response to incidents within one (1) hour.
- Must possess a Georgia Driver's license.
- Completion of GEMA/FEMA related coursework including the Incident Command System framework.
- Knowledge of college and university setting, preferably Middle Georgia State University and surrounding jurisdictions.
- Enhanced knowledge in developing plans, procedures and protocols for emergency response.
- Knowledge of emergency management principles, strategies and procedures.
- Knowledge of computer and PC operations, software and platforms related to Emergency management.
- Knowledge of modern office procedures.
- Knowledge of AED, First Aid, CPR and other related.
- Skill in organizing emergency management exercises to include but not limited to tabletops, fire drills, and hazmat.
- Skill in interpersonal relations and dealing with the public.
- Skill in oral and written communications, policies and procedures.
- Skill with computers and software programs (i.e. Word, Excel).
