Code Enforcement Officer I - Zoning, and Building Inspection

Job Summary: This position is responsible for the enforcement of county codes and ordinances.
Job Duties- Conduct onsite inspections and re‑inspections of buildings, structures, and land to determine compliance with applicable zoning, noise, public safety, and nuisance codes.
- Maintain files of inspections, re‑inspections, consultations, and telephone conversations.
- Input inspection reports, investigation notes and consultation data into computer database.
- Issue warnings and/or court citations for code violations.
- Prepare cases and testify in court.
- Perform erosion control inspections if needed.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- More than two years of related experience preferred.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
- Knowledge of code enforcement principles and practices.
- Knowledge of county zoning, noise, public safety, nuisance, and other relevant codes.
- Knowledge of the methods used in conducting and documenting field investigations.
- Knowledge of records management principles.
- Knowledge of modern office principles and practices.
- Skill in the use of computer and job‑related software programs.
- Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions.
- Skill in the preparation of clear and precise administrative reports.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Post‑offer negative drug test required.
- Applicants for positions that require a commercial motor vehicle at any time will be required to undergo controlled substances and alcohol testing prior to employment and may be subject to further testing during employment.
- Applicants will be asked to sign forms for release of information from previous employers in all cases where driving a CMV was one of your functions. Failure to sign may prevent employment as a CMV driver.
