As the Environmental Health County Manager with Macon Bibb County Environmental Health, you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals working to protect the health and well-being of communities across the state by supporting vital public health initiatives. Under limited supervision of the District Environmental Health Director, the Environmental Health County Manager will be responsible for leading the overall comprehensive environmental health program operations for Macon-Bibb and Wilkinson Counties.
PrimaryDuties & Responsibilities
- Develops and manages the annual Environmental Health (EH) budget for Macon-Bibb County, including supplies, training, and operational resources.
- Provides supervisory oversight to a team of 8–10 Environmental Health Specialists and 2 Administrative Assistants.
- Partners with the District Environmental Health Director and NCHD Human Resources to recruit, select, onboard, and train environmental health staff.
- Leads the Macon-Bibb County EH team with professionalism, integrity, and a strong commitment to employee development.
- Oversees inspection, permitting, and compliance activities for Food Service, Tourist Accommodations, Public Swimming Pools, Body Art, and Land Use programs in accordance with state rules and regulations.
- Manages additional Environmental Health programs, including Wastewater Management, Individual Well Water permitting, Rabies Control, and Emergency Preparedness.
- Investigates and responds to health-related complaints to ensure public safety and regulatory compliance.
- Actively participates in Macon-Bibb County Planning and Zoning meetings to review development plans and collaborates with the Wilkinson County Commission, as needed, to address Board of Health concerns.
- Provides environmental health education and technical assistance to the public, regulated community, and elected officials.
- Interprets and ensures compliance with local, state, and federal environmental health laws and regulations.
- Demonstrates strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills in managing daily operations and community engagement.
- Review and prepare presentations for Board of Health meetings.
- Participates in monthly Board of Health meetings and provides informed updates and discussions on matters impacting Bibb County.
