ACLS preferred; traveler will be required to pass an EKG competency exam during onboarding. Certification in Med Surg is a plus.
Must-Have:
Proficient in cardiac drips
Description:
Registered Nurse specializing in Med Surg/Telemetry.
The facility has 637 licensed beds.
Designated as a Level 1 trauma center, teaching hospital, chest pain center, and stroke center.
The Med Surg unit consists of 20-36 beds.
Nurse to patient ratios are 1:4-6.
LPNs and CNAs are available with supportive ratios.
CNA assistance includes vital signs monitoring, blood glucose checks, bathing, bed changes, feeding, and patient safety.
Unit secretary is present from 7 AM to 11 PM; after which, a house-wide call secretary is available from 11 PM to 7 AM.
Charge nurses are present on the unit.
Phlebotomy is carried out primarily by lab staff; however, RNs will draw from central venous lines.
There is no dedicated IV/VAT team, but a PICC team is available.
Resource nurses support discharge processes, and a resource team floats to all units.
Respiratory therapy and hospitalist services are available 24/7.
Central telemetry monitoring is conducted through a telemetry unit.
The EMR system used is EPIC.
The IV pump in use is Alaris, and medication dispensing is done through Pyxis.
Monitors in use include Philips.
Unit-specific equipment includes VS3 vital sign monitors and Nova glucose stat strips.
Travelers may be required to float to all Med Surg/Telemetry units as needed.
The unit culture is busy and team-oriented.
Proficiency in cardiac drips is a must.
