Position Overview

The Nutrition & Food Coordinator ensures compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, promoting each child’s wellness by providing nutritional services that supplement home and community nutrition, and ensuring the health and well‑being of children served in the program.

Responsibilities
  • Review each child’s nutritional needs assessment within 90 days of entry; recommend and refer for appropriate action.
  • Review nutritional and health information for returning children at least once during the program year and address identified needs.
  • Provide support, resources, and action plans for health/food referrals.
  • Support education staff in implementing classroom nutritional activities.
  • Provide individual or group nutritional counseling to families as requested or based on assessments.
  • Develop, review, modify, and evaluate menus to meet the nutritional needs of each child, ensuring cultural relevance.
  • Provide input on purchasing practices to maximize use of food service funds and attend food services meetings.
  • Collaborate with leadership on implementing nutritional components.
  • Participate in the Health Services Advisory Committee.
  • Perform CACFP self‑monitoring reviews as required.
  • Notify Food Service Manager or Director of Operations about safety or health concerns.
  • Ensure standardized recipes are followed and appropriate quantities are prepared and served per CACFP meal requirements.
  • Monitor menu acceptance by children and recommend changes.
  • Solicit menu ideas from families to maintain cultural relevance and introduce new foods.
  • Act as a resource with program staff to plan food‑related experiences for classroom and meal service.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition or a related field.
  • Health Department CACFP preferred.
  • Maintain CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Complete physical exam and background checks.
  • Travel locally or long‑distance up to 10% of the time.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Compensation

    $61,679 annually.
