Clinical Dietician
- Diabetes & Bariatrics Southern, GA
The Clinical Dietician
- Diabetes & Bariatrics will contribute to the delivery of quality patient care by providing specialized nutrition services divided between Diabetes Education (3 days/week) and Bariatric/Metabolic Care (2 days/week). Operating strictly in an outpatient setting, this role focuses on individual nutrition counseling and group education classes.
- Diabetes & Bariatrics Responsibilities:
Diabetes Education & Management (3 Days/Week):
- Conduct comprehensive nutrition assessments and build individualized care plans for patients with prediabetes, Type 1, Type 2, and gestational diabetes.
- Lead individual counseling sessions and outpatient group education classes focused on carbohydrate counting, meal planning, blood glucose pattern management, and lifestyle modification.
- Monitor patient progress and adjust nutritional interventions in collaboration with outpatient primary care and endocrinology teams.
- Deliver comprehensive pre- and post-operative nutritional assessments, counseling, and education for bariatric surgical candidates.
- Guide patients through structured post-surgical diet progressions, micronutrient supplementation protocols, and behavioral strategies to prevent nutritional deficiencies and promote long-term success.
- Facilitate outpatient bariatric group classes and support groups.
- Screen outpatient referrals for nutrition risk and deliver timely, evidence-based Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT).
- Document all assessments, education sessions, and patient outcomes accurately within the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Participate in multidisciplinary outpatient care meetings, quality improvement projects, and program accreditation initiatives.
- Serve as a clinical nutrition resource for health center staff and community education initiatives.
- Diabetes & Bariatrics Requirements:
- Master's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Clinical Nutrition, Public Health Nutrition, or a related field required (unless registered as an RD prior to January 1, 2024).
- Currently registered as a Registered Dietitian (RD) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
- Currently licensed (or eligible for licensure) as a Licensed Dietitian (LD) in the State of Georgia.
- Must obtain Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) credential within three (3) years of employment.
- Diabetes Care:
Experience/background in diabetes education is preferred, but not required. - Bariatric Care:
Prior experience with pre- and post-surgery bariatric nutrition is preferred.
