MQ Series / MFT Engineer (Hybrid – Roseland, NJ or Alpharetta, GA)
We are seeking a Senior Middleware Engineer with combined expertise in IBM MQ Series and IBM Sterling Managed File Transfer (MFT) to support enterprise middleware operations for a client with a mature but talent-constrained middleware environment. This is a hands‑on engineering role, not an architecture‑only or oversight position.
The client has experienced ongoing difficulty sourcing and retaining senior‑level talent in this stack due to a shallow qualified talent pool, and has had to rely on training junior resources internally. A candidate who can operate independently at a senior level with minimal ramp‑up is a priority.
Key Responsibilities:- Administer, configure, and support IBM MQ Series environments (queue managers, channels, clustering, security).
- Configure and support IBM Sterling B2B Integrator / Sterling MFT for secure enterprise file transfers.
- Troubleshoot complex middleware connectivity, performance, and integration issues across MQ and MFT platforms.
- Manage certificate setup, key exchanges, and secure transfer protocol configurations (SFTP, FTPS, PGP, TLS).
- Support production stability, incident response, and root‑cause troubleshooting for middleware tier issues.
- Document configurations, architecture, and operational runbooks.
- Mentor / support junior engineering resources as needed, given the client's internal training model.
- Senior‑level, hands‑on experience with IBM MQ Series (queue manager admin, clustering, security, troubleshooting).
- Senior‑level, hands‑on experience with IBM Sterling Managed File Transfer / Sterling B2B Integrator.
- Candidate must have both — MQ Series‑only or Sterling‑only candidates do not meet the bar for this role.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across middleware and file transfer integration issues.
Skills:
- Experience operating in regulated or enterprise‑scale environments.
- Linux/Unix command line proficiency.
- Scripting/automation experience (Bash, Power Shell, or similar).
- Prior experience mentoring or upskilling junior middleware engineers.
Hybrid — candidate must be local to Roseland, NJ or Alpharetta, GA and able to work on‑site per client cadence.
