Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry float pool position at a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital in Macon, GA, requiring a minimum of 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience.

Responsibilities
  • 12-hour night shifts (1900–0700), 36 hours per week
  • Large academic medical center with 637 licensed beds, Level 1 Trauma designation, Chest Pain Center, and Stroke Center
  • Float pool assignment covering all Med/Surg and Telemetry units in-house, as needed
  • Med/Surg units range from 20–36 beds per unit
  • General inpatient Med/Surg and Telemetry patient population
  • RN-to-patient ratio of 1:4–6
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
  • No on-call or call-back requirements
  • Centralized telemetry monitoring unit available
  • EMR:
    Epic (experience noted); IV pumps:
    Alaris; medication dispensing:
    Pyxis; monitors:
    Philips; VS3 vital sign monitors and Nova Glucose Stat Strips used on unit
  • Provide telemetry-monitored nursing care across multiple inpatient Med/Surg units in a float pool capacity
  • CNA support available for vitals, blood glucose checks, ADLs, patient safety, ambulation, and repositioning
  • Unit Secretary on unit 7a–11p; house-wide call secretary available 11p–7a
  • Charge nurse, discharge nurses, and a resource float team are available on all units
  • Phlebotomy is lab-collect on most units; RNs draw from central venous lines (CVLs); PICC team available (no general IV team)
  • Respiratory Therapy, Hospitalists, and Intensivists available 24/7
  • Orientation consists of 1 day of general facility orientation with educational modules, followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Med/Surg certification is a plus
  • RN scrub color:
    Navy blue
  • Free parking available around campus
  • Unit culture is described as busy and team-oriented
  • Local candidates are welcome — no radius rule applies; same rate for local travelers in GA
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Candidates who have worked a permanent position at an AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being considered
Requirements
  • Active GA RN license or Compact RN license currently in hand
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Telemetry RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • BLS certification required
  • ACLS certification preferred; candidates without ACLS must pass an EKG competency exam during onboarding
  • Proficiency in trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, and glucometer use
  • Proficiency in cardiac drips required, including insulin drips, heparin drips, and drips titrated to heart rate
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
