American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Level 1 Trauma Emergency Department night shift position requiring a GA or compact RN license and two years of ED experience.
Responsibilities- Position is in the Emergency Department of a large teaching hospital with a Level 1 Trauma designation
- 61+ bed unit with surge capacity and a high-acuity patient population
- Common patient cases include chest pain, strokes, diabetes, abdominal pain, trauma, mental health, and medical emergencies
- Typical RN patient ratio is 1:4, varying by assigned zone
- Shift is 12 hours, 7:00pm–7:00am, with a 6-week scheduling cycle
- No floating outside the Emergency Department
- Weekend rotation is 6 out of 12 shifts per 6-week period
- No on-call or call back responsibilities
- Required to work one shift for each major holiday:
Thanksgiving or day after, Christmas Eve or Christmas, and New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day - Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and Philips monitors
- Responsibilities include emergency care, patient assessment, medication administration, and responding to trauma and critical care cases
- Support team includes CNAs, unit secretary, phlebotomy, charge nurse, PICC team, RT, hospitalist, and intensivist available 24/7
- CNA staff assist with vital signs, blood glucose checks, patient hygiene, feeding, ambulation, and patient transport
- Department utilizes central telemetry for monitoring
- One day facility orientation and two days of departmental orientation provided
- Scrub color is navy blue for RNs
- Free campus parking available or optional paid parking in decks
- Busy and collaborative team environment
- First-time travelers will be considered
- Active GA or compact RN license
- Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC certifications
- Must pass an EKG competency exam (Basic Cardiac Rhythm)
- Minimum 2 years of recent Emergency Department RN experience required
- Experience with Level 1 Trauma preferred
- Ability to administer advanced drips including Heparin, Insulin, Cardene, Dopamine, Epinephrine, Fentanyl, Propofol, and Levophed
- Experience with Epic EMR preferred
- Must provide one recent professional reference from a supervisor, manager, director, or charge RN
- If previously employed in a permanent role at an AHSE facility, must have a separation of at least one year
