Position Overview
34413 Navicent Health Medical Center - Nursing:
Medical/Surgical IU 8 Main. Full-time position, 40 hours per week, nights shift schedule. Pay range: $41.10 – $61.65 per hour.
- Provides work direction to the clinical and support staff, coordinating resources to support procedures, day‑to‑day operations and patient flow.
- Supports direct patient care by performing the nursing process: assessment, care planning, implementation and evaluation of outcomes. Promotes a safe, efficient, quality care environment and conducts patient rounding as needed.
- Coordinates patient‑care team needs, initiates service complaint follow‑up, and promotes communication among patients, families, departments and medical staff.
- Serves as a resource to employees: training/orients, provides day‑to‑day work direction, gives performance input, assigns, monitors and reviews progress, and offers guidance on complex issues with unit leadership.
- Assists with human‑resource responsibilities: interviewing and selecting new employees, resolving employee concerns and other duties in collaboration with unit leadership.
- Monitors employee assignments, staffing levels and makes adjustments to maintain productivity.
- Monitors quality of care, assists in ensuring policies and procedures comply with the medical center, nursing department and regulatory agencies.
- Provides input to budget, ensures supplies, equipment and inventory are available for safe patient care and the work environment.
- Works with management to develop new and existing programs and services.
- Works with vendors for products, coordinates equipment in‑services, participates in product trials and submits recommendations to management.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills appropriate to patients’ ages, applying growth and development principles and assessing patient data for age‑specific needs as outlined in departmental policies.
- Registered Nurse (RN)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or Health‑Related Field; or Associate Degree and enrollment in a BSN program within 2 years of hire, completing the BSN within 5 years. Typically requires 3 years of clinical nursing experience in an acute‑care setting.
- Holistic nursing practice, clinical and technical knowledge in specialty area, ability to apply evidence‑based interventions and nursing technology, and recognize situational changes requiring unplanned interventions.
- Proficient computer skills, including keyboarding, navigation within a Windows operating system, electronic mail and electronic medical record systems.
- Excellent communication, listening and interpersonal skills; ability to develop rapport and maintain professional relationships with patients, staff and physicians.
- Effective independent decision‑making, anticipation of learning needs and preventive actions.
- Excellent organization, prioritization, problem‑solving and time‑management; ability to multitask and prioritize with frequent interruptions.
- Coaching and developing employees to achieve quality and service standards of the unit and medical center.
- Registered Nurse license issued by the state of practice.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification (AHA) obtained within 6 months unless otherwise determined.
- Annual educational requirements for hospital‑based certifications (e.g., DNV, CARF).
- Must sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders and twist frequently throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist, up to 20 lbs. overhead, carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance, push/pull with 30 lbs. of force, perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.
- Use of foot pedals on carts or machines; exposure to chemical and hazardous waste, blood and body fluids, and communicable disease; protective clothing and equipment required.
- Functional speech, vision, hearing and touch required for fine hand manipulation skills (e.g., IV insertion).
- Operates all equipment necessary for job duties.
Main is a 35‑bed medical‑surgical nursing floor with telemetry monitoring. The nurse‑to‑patient ratio is typically 1:5, but may be 1:6. Nights shift schedule.
Role SummaryResponsible for assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation and evaluation for patients served. Acts as educator, colleague, researcher, advocate and leader. Demonstrates competency in ensuring quality care, process improvement, patient and employee safety, collaboration, consultation and professional development. Assumes responsibility for planning, organizing, delegating and evaluating patient care rendered by LPNs, technicians, medical receptionists and other staff.
