Compensation: $130,000 - $145,000 per year. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401(k), PTO, holidays, five CME days, up to $500 CME allowance, malpractice coverage and bonus opportunity.
Job Description & ResponsibilitiesAt Core Civic, we do more than manage inmates; we care for people. The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner provides comprehensive psychiatric services to incarcerated individuals within a correctional facility and collaborates with a physician.
Responsibilities include:
- Psychiatric Assessment and Diagnosis:
Conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations, diagnose mental illnesses using DSM-5, assess suicide risk and self‑harm, collaborate with healthcare professionals and correctional staff to gather relevant information. - Treatment Planning and Implementation:
Develop individualized treatment plans, prescribe medications and monitor effectiveness and side effects, provide brief psychotherapy using evidence‑based modalities, coordinate care with the interdisciplinary team, and modify plans as needed. - Crisis Intervention and Emergency Services:
Respond to psychiatric emergencies, conduct crisis assessments, provide stabilization and appropriate interventions, collaborate with staff, and determine the need for higher‑level treatment. - Collaboration and Consultation:
Work with primary care physicians, psychologists, social workers, and nurses; develop comprehensive plans for complex cases; provide guidance to correctional staff on mental‑health issues, crisis management, and suicide prevention; participate in case conferences, treatment team meetings, and quality improvement initiatives. - Documentation and Compliance:
Maintain accurate records, ensure compliance with laws and regulations, and adhere to facility policies and procedures. - Education and Training:
Stay updated on psychiatric medicine advances, engage in professional development, and provide training to correctional staff on mental‑health topics, crisis management, and de‑escalation techniques.
- Board certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
- Current and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in the state where the facility is located plus DEA registration.
- Preferred experience in psychiatric care or correctional/underserved populations.
- Strong assessment and diagnostic skills, ability to manage a wide range of acute and chronic conditions.
- Proficiency in prescribing medications and therapies under physician supervision.
