American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position at a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital, requiring at least 2 years of experience and strong cardiac monitoring skills.
Details- Works on a 20-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit in a 637-licensed-bed Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital with Chest Pain and Stroke Center designations
- Patient population is diverse and includes stroke and brain injury patients, post-op surgical patients, and those with acute or chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, CHF, infections, and electrolyte imbalances
- RN-to-patient ratio is 1:4–6, supported by LPNs (1:4–6) and 2–3 CNAs per shift
- Specialized procedures include trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, Glucommander, insulin drips, heparin drips, and titrated drips
- EMR is Epic; experience with Epic is expected
- Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, Philips monitors, VS3 vital sign monitors, Dynamap portable monitors, bladder scanners, portable oxygen, PCA pain management, and Glucommander
- 12-hour day (7A–7P) or night (7P–7A) shifts available on a 6-week scheduling cycle
- Weekend rotation requires approximately 5–6 shifts per 6-week schedule
- No on-call or call-back requirements
- Floating may be required to all adult Med/Surg and Telemetry units within the facility
- Active GA or Compact RN license required
- Current BLS and Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR) certification required
- ACLS preferred
- Medical-surgical national certification preferred but not required
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Telemetry RN experience required
- Strong cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation skills required
- Proficiency with IV insertion and care, central line management, wound care, and post-op monitoring
- Experience with drip titration, insulin drips, heparin drips, and Glucommander
- At least 1 professional reference from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN dated within the past year required for consideration
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Responsibilities include cardiac monitoring, telemetry interpretation, care coordination with interdisciplinary teams, discharge planning, and patient education with a focus on renal and fluid management
- Unit support includes CNAs, a unit secretary (7A–11P), a house-wide call secretary (11P–7A), a charge nurse on each unit, a PICC team, discharge nurses, a resource team, and centralized telemetry monitoring
- Respiratory therapy, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage available 24/7
- Orientation consists of 1 day of general facility orientation with educational modules followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
- Holiday expectations require working one shift of each major holiday (Thanksgiving or the day after, 12/24 or 12/25, and 12/31 or 1/1)
- RTO requests require manager approval
- RN scrub color is navy blue
- Parking is available free of charge around campus, with paid parking deck options also available
- Unit culture is described as busy but team-oriented
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Candidates who have previously worked a permanent position at an AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
