American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 1 Trauma, academic teaching hospital, working 12-hour night shifts with cardiac and step-down patient populations.
Details- 30-bed cardiac telemetry unit (5 Heart) within a 637-licensed-bed Level 1 Trauma, academic teaching hospital that includes a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center
- Patient population includes pre/post cardiac and step-down ICU patients with diagnoses such as CHF, COPD, STEMI, NSTEMI, and sepsis
- RN-to-patient ratio of 1:4–6 with 2–3 CNAs per shift
- Procedures and skills utilized include trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, glucommander, insulin drips, heparin drips, cardiac drip titration (heart rate only), IV insertion, central line management, wound care, post-op monitoring, and telemetry interpretation
- EMR:
Epic (experience required) - Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, Philips monitors, VS3 vital sign monitors, Nova Glucose Stat Strips, and PCA pain management systems
- Central Telemetry Unit provides remote cardiac monitoring support
- 12-hour night shifts, 7p–7a, 36 hours per week
- Schedule rotates every 6 weeks; weekend rotation requires approximately 5–6 weekend shifts per 6-week cycle
- Floating required to all med/surg telemetry units within the facility
- No on-call or call-back requirements
- Active GA or Compact RN license required
- Current BLS certification required
- Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR) / EKG rhythm interpretation required (assessed during onboarding)
- ACLS preferred but not required
- Medical-surgical nursing national certification preferred but not required
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Telemetry RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Level 1 Trauma hospital experience required
- Proficiency with Epic EMR required
- Strong cardiac monitoring, telemetry interpretation, and clinical assessment skills required
- At least 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN is required for consideration
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Candidates who have previously worked a permanent position at an AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
- Local candidates are accepted — no radius rule applies; same rate offered to local travelers (GA facilities)
- CNA support includes vital signs, glucose checks, bathing, feeding, ambulation, turning, hourly rounding, and patient transport; a dedicated hospital transport team is also available
- Unit secretary is present 7a–11p; house-wide call secretary available 11p–7a
- Each unit has a dedicated charge nurse; resource and discharge nurses float to all units
- Respiratory therapy, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage available 24/7
- PICC team available on-site; nurses are responsible for draws from central venous lines
- Orientation consists of 1 day of general facility orientation with educational modules followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
- Holiday coverage required — travelers are expected to work 75% of major holidays (Thanksgiving or the day after, 12/24 or 12/25, and 12/31 or 1/1)
