Description:
RN position in Med Surg/Telemetry. Facility has 637 licensed beds and holds a Level 1 Trauma designation. It is also a teaching hospital and a certified Chest Pain and Stroke Center. Each Med Surg unit has 20-36 beds. Patient types include various Med Surg and Telemetry cases. Patient ratios are RN 1:4-6 and LPN 1:4-6. CNA ratios can be up to 1:14.
CNA will assist with vital checks, blood glucose checks, bathing, bed changes, feeding, and patient safety. A unit secretary is available from 7 AM to 11 PM, transitioning to housewide support from 11 PM to 7 AM. Charge nurses are present on each unit. Phlebotomy services are generally handled by lab collect phlebotomy; however, RNs can draw from central venous lines.
There is a PICC team available as needed. Resource nurses are available for discharge and support. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7. Hospitalist and intensivist services are also accessible round the clock. Telemetry monitoring is centralized. EMR system used is Epic. IV pump brand is Alaris and medication dispensing is managed via Pyxis. Unit-specific equipment includes VS3 vital sign monitors and Nova glucose stat strips.
Travelers will be utilized in a float pool capacity and may be required to float to all Med/Tele units as needed. The unit culture is busy and team-oriented. Must be proficient in managing cardiac drips.
