American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg-Tele position at a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital, requiring 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience and a GA or compact RN license.
Details- 30-bed Med/Surg-Tele unit within a 637-bed Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital with Chest Pain and Stroke Center designations
- Patient population includes heart failure, A-Fib, acute kidney injury, CKD, respiratory failure, COPD, asthma, NSTEMI, sepsis, and diabetes, along with post-op and post cardiac procedure patients
- RN to patient ratio of 1:4-6
- 12-hour night shifts (7P-7A), 36 hours per week
- Weekend rotation of 5-6 shifts out of 12 on a 6-week schedule
- No on-call requirements
- Floating required to all adult med-surg/telemetry units in the facility
- Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and Phillips monitors
- Utilizes VS3 vital sign monitors, Nova Glucose Stat Strips, cardiac telemetry monitoring, bladder scanners, and PCA pain management equipment
- Supported by 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage, along with a dedicated PICC team and resource/discharge nurses
- Active RN license (GA or Compact) required
- BLS certification required
- ACLS certification preferred
- Medical-Surgical national certification preferred but not required
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience required
- Must pass a Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR) EKG competency exam as part of compliance
- Skilled in trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, glucommander, insulin drips, and heparin drips
- Experience with IV insertion, central line management, wound care, and post-op monitoring required
- Experience with Foley insertion, care, and maintenance required
- Strong cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation skills required
- EPIC EMR experience required
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
- Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required
- Provide clinical care including cardiac monitoring, wound care, groin management, and discharge planning with an emphasis on renal and fluid management education
- Coordinate care with interdisciplinary teams including RT, hospitalists, intensivists, and resource nurses
- CNA support available for vitals, glucose checks, bathing, feeding, ambulation, and patient transport
- Unit secretary support available 7A-11P with house-wide call secretary coverage overnight
- Charge nurse may carry a patient assignment
- Orientation includes 1 day of facility orientation with educational modules plus 2 days of departmental orientation
- Scrub color requirement:
Navy for RNs - Free parking available on campus, with paid deck parking also available
- Unit culture described as busy but team-oriented
- Holiday coverage required for approximately 75% of major holidays, including Thanksgiving or the day after, Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve or New Year's Day
- RTO requests subject to manager approval
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- No radius rule applies for local candidates in GA facilities, with the same rate offered to local travelers
- Returning employees must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year following a permanent position
