RN - Med Surg/Tele
This position requires an RN in the Med Surg/Tele specialty. The facility has 637 licensed beds, is a designated Level 1 Trauma center, and functions as a teaching hospital. The unit consists of 30 beds with a typical census of around 30 patients. The patient population consists of pre and post-cardiac surgery patients and step-down ICU patients. Common diagnoses include CHF, COPD, STEMI, NSTEMI, and sepsis.
The patient-to-nurse ratio is typically 1:4-6. Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) assist with various patient care tasks. The unit has a unit secretary during the day shift and requires charge nurses in each unit. Respiratory therapy and hospitalist services are available 24/7. Central telemetry monitoring is also available along with a PICC team for line management. The technology used includes EMR and specific monitoring and dispensing systems.
Nurses may float to all Med-Surg telemetry units within the facility. Weekend rotation requires working 5-6 shifts per 6-week schedule. Holidays include working one shift during major holidays. Requests for time off must be approved by management. The unit culture emphasizes teamwork in a busy environment.
