Weekend Rotation:6 weekend shifts in a 6 week period (6 out of 12 shifts)
Holiday Requirements:must work one day of each major holiday: must work Thanksgiving Day 11/26 or Day after Thanksgiving 11/27 AND Christmas Eve 12/24 or Christmas Day 12/25 AND New Years Eve 12/31 or New Years Day 1/1 Floating Requirements:will float to all med surg/ telemetry units

Minimum Years of Experience required: 2 years Med/Tele RN experience

Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:

Patients with acute or chronic disease
Post-op surgeries
Co-morbidities common to med-surg population: diabetes, hypertension, infections, CHF, electrolytes imbalances

Patient Ratios:

RN: 1:4-6
LPN: 1:4-6
CNA: 2-3 per shift

Required License, National Certification, Certs (BLS, ACLS, etc.), or other position specific requirements such as Driver's License and/or Insurance:

BLS (Basic Life Support) required
BCR (Basic Cardiac Rythm) required – meaning traveler will be required to pass an EKG competency exam as part of Compliance
ACLS - preferred not required
National certification
- Medical-Surgical certification - preferred

Skills required:

trach chare, chest tube management, PIV starts, glucommander, insulin drips, heparin drips, drips to titrate Heart Rate but not Blood Pressure
Strong clinical assessment and med-surg nursing skills for Level 1 Trauma Hospital
IV insertion and care, central line management
Wound care and post op monitoring
Cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation
Care coordination with interdisciplinary teams
Discharge planning and patient education management

Support within the Department:

CNA:
Duties:
Yes - assist with VS, Glucose Checks, baths, feeding, ambulating patients, assisting turning patients, hourly rounding, transporting patients as needed (Hospital has designated Transport Team); obtain blood from blood bank
Receptionist/HUC:
Unit secretary on unit 7a-11p; then house wide call secretary 11p-7a
Charge nurse – may have patients
Phlebotomy:
Most units are lab collect phlebotomy; nurses drawn from CVLs
IV/VAT Team:
Not an IV team - do have a PICC team
Resource Nurse:
Yes, we have discharge nurses, resource team floats to all units
RT 24/7: yes
Hospitalist 24/7: yes
Intensivist 24/7: yes

PCA pain management
Suction machine
Use of admission/ discharge protocol for rapid turnover
