Overview
The Larimer County Conservation Corps (LCCC) offers positions to young adults to spend a season serving on meaningful conservation projects throughout the Front Range of Colorado. The LCCC is based in Fort Collins, Colorado and is an accredited corps through the Colorado Youth Corps Association and The Corps Network. Learn more about LCCC /lccc.
This new individual site placement (ISP) position works directly with the US Forest Service and National Forest Foundation to collect regeneration data and cone survey data in the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests. These are temporary positions (4) from June 1 – September 30 (tentative). Individuals will work in pairs in the Cameron Peak and East Troublesome burn scars collecting data on regeneration and cone production.
This information will assist Forest Service staff in identifying cone crops for collection, which will help increase the supply of native seeds for reforestation efforts in post-fire recovery areas. Crews may be asked to perform additional tasks that support reforestation efforts, such as helping to monitor tree planting operations or ground truth modeling data for the Rocky Mountain Research Station.
The standard schedule for this position is:
Monday-Thursday 7 a.m.– 5:30 p.m. Camping may be required 20% of time from Monday evening - Wednesday evening near the worksite. This schedule may be modified due to holidays, training, weather, logistics, or other unforeseen circumstances.
What you’ll be doing:
- Utilize a Survey
123 App to collect data on native tree cone stocking data on the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests to inform future cone collections and planting operations. - Collect post-fire regeneration data on Forest Service lands using mobile tools such as Survey
123 and Field Maps. - Identify 20 new or unique locations suitable for future cone collection and long-term monitoring.
- Participate in activities that support current or future tree planting projects, such as tree planting inspection or site layout.
- Train partners and collaborate with volunteers to gather cone production and forest regeneration data.
- Attend workshops and training sessions to enhance data collection techniques and broaden project impact.
- Take part in career development activities to build skills and explore professional pathways.

Qualifications- Familiarity with data collection best practices and experience using data collection tools or mobile apps.
- Knowledge of common tree species found in Northern Colorado.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to document monitoring activities, report findings, educate the public, and support field operations.
- Ability to safely operate and maintain vehicles and field tools.
- For Conservation Corps Supervisors only, must be 18 years of age or older and have a valid driver's license by date of hire.
