Job Title: Public Safety Dispatcher
Department: Mercer Police College / Division
Location: Macon, GA 31207
Responsibilities- Receive emergency and non‑emergency calls for service.
- Dispatch police officers and security personnel.
- Monitor life safety and security systems.
- Provide timely, accurate information to responding personnel.
- Coordinate emergency response efforts, prioritize calls, maintain communication with field personnel, and document incidents in accordance with departmental policies and applicable laws.
- Remain calm under pressure, exercise sound judgment, and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Provide exceptional customer service to students, faculty, staff, visitors, and outside public safety agencies.
- High school diploma/GED and some experience in customer service, communications, dispatch, public safety, emergency services, law enforcement, or administrative support.
- Knowledge of modern public safety dispatching procedures and radio communications.
- Knowledge of GCIC/NCIC rules, regulations, and security requirements.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and general computer operations.
- Ability to learn and effectively use Computer‑Aided Dispatch (CAD), Records Management Systems (RMS), camera systems, access control systems, and other public safety technologies.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate clearly over radio and telephone systems; ability to gather accurate information during emergency situations.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, make rapid decisions under stressful conditions, prioritize multiple incidents while maintaining composure.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with officers, university personnel, students, and the public; maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
- Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required; adapt quickly to changing operational needs; remain seated for extended periods while operating multiple computer monitors and communications equipment.
- Manual dexterity sufficient to operate computers, keyboards, telephones, and communications equipment; ability to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment requiring sustained concentration and attention to detail.
