Job Profile Summary
This position is for an experienced OSP Fiber Technician who will perform all maintenance activities for customer facilities which include ILA huts, buried and aerial fiber.
Responsibilities- Splice fiber optic cables including both loose tube and ribbon cables, including high count ribbon fiber of 864 count or higher, and construct proper splice cases and fiber termination panels.
- Perform ring cuts.
- Lead other technicians while performing daily job duties.
- Train and coach less experienced technicians.
- Troubleshoot and perform maintenance to resolve signal problems.
- Operate technical equipment, including computer, OTDR, power meters, fusion splicing equipment, and understand the functions.
- Lift and manipulate splice enclosures and other plant and equipment.
- Installation and dressing of fiber optic cabling.
- Read and interpret work prints, splice diagrams, existing fiber records, in maps or in the field.
- Read splice and test results and provide timely reports to office team.
- Uphold Tilson's safety values and ensure worksite safety.
- Conduct preventive maintenance & emergency maintenance for ILA sites, including battery testing, fiber testing, alarm response & more.
- Troubleshoot and repair fiber issues related to customers dark & lit fiber.
- Perform fiber locates for Tilson & Customer fiber.
- Be on call for emergency fiber outages.
- Operate lift or bucket truck.
- Minimum 5-10 years' splicing experience.
- Minimum 5-10 years’ experience troubleshooting fiber.
- Demonstrated experience with both loose tube and ribbon splicing as well as high count fibers.
- OSHA 10/30 certification.
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with fiber optic cable splicing, testing and repair.
- Proficiency with tools including cable strippers, crimpers, and test equipment.
- Ability to complete tests and report results in a timely manner.
- Strong work ethic and desire to be a leader.
- Good communication skills and a positive attitude.
