Job OverviewThe General Trades Technician will provide general maintenance to facilities and building maintenance. As a Maintenance Technician, you will be a valuable member of the maintenance team. You will be responsible for checking, troubleshooting, and making routine repairs in the following areas: electrical, air conditioning, water heaters, plumbing, painting, carpentry, and other building maintenance areas. Work can include work in tight spaces depending on the maintenance requirement.
WhatYou Will Do
- Perform general maintenance and repair work on facilities and equipment.
- Respond to service requests including electrical, furnaces, lighting, HVAC systems, appliances, water heaters, disposals, general plumbing & fixtures, carpentry, painting, roofing tasks, and other required maintenance items.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance to ensure machines operate smoothly and that building conditions do not deteriorate.
- Follow and adhere to an established preventive maintenance program for all heating and ventilation systems and perform required maintenance such as filter replacement.
- Assist in emergency maintenance as required including sewage back-ups, water main and/or lateral breaks, fires, other water leaks, appliance repairs, etc.
- Assemble, install and/or repair wiring, electrical and electronic components, pipe systems, plumbing, machinery, and equipment.
- Check blueprints, repair manuals and parts catalogs.
- Install, maintain, evaluate, and repair any components of the facility’s systems.
- Operate plant equipment and building automation systems.
- Maintain equipment such as tools, gauges, snakes, drills, etc. and assist in maintaining an accurate inventory of all materials and tools.
- Understand the proper use of equipment and chemicals and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Read and utilize blueprints, plans, drawings, and sketches to determine the work to be performed and resources required.
- Maintain a clean and safe workplace and perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures, OSHA requirements, and client needs.
- Handle hazardous materials in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Ensure unsafe conditions are corrected in a timely manner and observe all safety practices and regulations.
- Ensure all maintenance conforms to quality standards and designated timeliness.
- Complete all required compliance, safety and development training as assigned.
- Be available for on-call services as needed.
- Train other technicians with different skillsets on basics of the trade and provide mentorship, oversight and direction.
- Enter work orders into the CMMS system per CGL policy.
- Drive for the Company using either a company vehicle or a personal/rental vehicle more than 50% of the time to perform work duties.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Trade certification preferred.
- 1–3 years of experience in building repairs and maintenance or in the specific area of assignment preferred.
- General knowledge of electrical, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, and building maintenance.
- Ability to work outside in all weather conditions and perform physical work, including lifting weights up to 50 pounds regularly and occasionally over 50 pounds.
- Willingness and ability to work occasional on-call shifts.
- Team player with a strong work ethic, positive attitude, and reliability.
- Computer proficient.
- Certifications may be required at time of hire and/or obtained within required timeframe.
- Self‑motivated, multitasking, prioritizing and excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including effective client interaction.
- Valid driver's license in the state of employment.
- EPA 608 certification preferred.
- Skilled trade certification preferred.
