Summary
An Electrician I/II is responsible for performing both rough and finished electrical work for Macon-Bibb County.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Install, repair, and maintain electrical service and equipment for County facilities and properties.
- Install, repair, and maintain street, interstate, and park lighting owned by the County.
- Install, repair, and maintain electrical and electronic control systems for County facilities and properties.
- Determine proper types of wiring; measure, cut, and terminate wires.
- Respond to accident scenes involving County street and interstate lighting, de-energize live conductors, and clean up lighting debris.
- Operate vehicles, equipment, and tools provided by the Facilities Management Department.
- Participate in the on‑call duty rotation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Must possess a high school diploma or GED, completion of a standard electrical training course, and 2–3 years of experience in the electrical field (or equivalent combination).
Electrician IIMust possess a high school diploma or GED, completion of a standard electrical training course, and 3–5 years of experience in the electrical field (or equivalent). Low‑voltage wiring and fire alarm systems experience is a plus.
Special Requirements- Possess a Commercial Driver’s License, Class B with no air‑brake restrictions, or be able to obtain this license within 6 months of employment.
- Be available for 24‑hour emergency call response as needed.
- Be comfortable working at heights, on ladders, using lift equipment, and on bucket trucks.
- Knowledge of basic electrical, electronic, and mechanical principles as applied to electrical systems.
- Knowledge of standard methods, materials, tools, equipment, and practices in the electrical trade.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the electrical trade.
- Basic working knowledge of personal computers.
- Ability to read and understand wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to apply training and prior experience to electrical systems maintenance.
- Ability to analyze, isolate, and correct problems in electrical systems.
- Skill in proper use of vehicles, tools, and equipment of the electrical trade.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and members of the public.
