JOB DESCRIPTION

Performs skilled work in the installation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of plumbing fixtures and piping systems in school and district facilities. The position requires regular site visits to schools and district buildings to evaluate work at various stages of completion. Assignments are received through oral instructions or written work orders and frequently involve interpreting blueprints, construction drawings, and technical specifications to ensure work is completed accurately and in compliance with applicable codes.

This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Install, inspect, maintain, and repair plumbing systems including water supply lines, sanitary sewer systems, storm drainage, gas piping, and related fixtures in school and district facilities.
  • Diagnose plumbing issues, determine corrective actions, and perform repairs to restore systems to proper working conditions.
  • Interpret and work from blueprints, construction drawings, schematics, and specifications to ensure accurate installation and compliance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Perform pipe fitting tasks including measuring, cutting, threading, bending, and assembling pipe using appropriate tools and materials.
  • Install and service plumbing fixtures such as sinks, toilets, urinals, water heaters, drinking fountains, backflow prev enters, and related components.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure proper operation, safety, and compliance with district standards and plumbing codes.
  • Respond to service requests and work orders, prioritizing tasks to minimize disruption to school operations.
  • Coordinate work with other maintenance trades, contractors, and facility staff as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and time spent on assignments.
  • Identify potential plumbing issues and recommend preventive maintenance or system improvements.
  • Ensure work areas are kept clean and safe, following all district safety procedures and OSHA regulations.
  • May provide guidance or technical support to Plumber I staff or apprentices as assigned.
  • Perform emergency repairs after hours or during inclement weather as required.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

High School Diploma or State Approved High School Equivalency. Experience in skilled carpentry. Prior experience as a plumber or plumbing apprenticeship preferred. Or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and/or training that provides the required knowledge and abilities.

KNOWLEDGE,

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Working knowledge of National Plumbing Code.

Good communications skills.

Excellent human relations skills.

Skill in pipe fitting and welding techniques.

Skill in the use of hand and power tools as related to building and plumbing repairs, installation, and preventative maintenance.

Skill in effective communication, both orally and in writing.

Skill in problem-solving and troubleshooting.

Ability to read and work from blueprints and sketches.

Ability to understand, analyze, and interpret information and instructions.

Ability to relate to and communicate with other system and school personnel in order to accomplish job responsibilities.

Ability to work independently without close supervision.

Ability to respond to emergency calls and work overtime as needed.

Salary/Terms/Benefits:

  • 239 day contract year; 8 hours per day
  • Salary Range: GR121J ($44,109.84- $47,914.72) annually (placement on salary schedule based on years of related experience). Up to ten years allowed. The stated salary range reflects the opportunity forpay over the course of the employee's tenure. For external candidates, the top pay is not a potential starting salary.

    Membership in Teachers’ Retirement System is not available.
