Summary

The Victim Witness Assistance Program of the Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office, serving Bibb County, is seeking a motivated and compassionate Summer intern to assist victim advocates and outreach in supporting crime victims throughout the criminal justice process. This internship offers hands‑on experience in prosecution‑based victim advocacy, court procedures, and community service. Interns will gain valuable exposure to the criminal justice system while developing professional skills in communication, case management, and community outreach engagement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist Victim Advocates with case preparation and follow‑up
  • Contact victims regarding court dates, case updates, and available services
  • Observe court proceedings and assist with courtroom support
  • Help coordinate restitution requests
  • Provide outcome performance measurement surveys
  • Assist with supervised administrative and program support tasks as needed
Education, Training and Experience

The VWAP Summer Intern must be a current undergraduate student in an accredited institution, major in Social Work, Criminal Justice, Psychology, Sociology, Human Services, Counseling or related field. A background check is required. Must be able to commit to the full internship term.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Professional demeanor and reliability.
  • Exposure to prosecution processes within a District Attorney’s Office.
  • Compliance with all District Attorney’s Office policies and confidentiality standards.
  • Training in trauma‑informed and victim‑centered practices.
  • Understanding victims’ rights and notification requirements.
  • Professional mentorship from experienced Victim Advocates.
