Position Overview

The Shelter Family Advocate at Crisis Line & Safe House of Central Georgia serves as the midnight shift leader for shelter clients, providing overnight support and safety monitoring.

In addition to direct client support, this position is responsible for maintaining accurate monthly statistics, completing data entry, performing light housekeeping duties, and organizing shelter materials, supplies, and resources. The Shelter Family Advocate also manages the intake, logging, sorting, categorization, and organization of all donations received by the shelter.

The position plays an important role in ensuring continuity of shelter operations during overnight hours while maintaining accurate records, an organized environment, and appropriate documentation of client and program activities.

Essential Job Functions as Shelter Family Advocate
  • Participates in performing activities necessary for the smooth operation of the domestic violence shelter, providing housing, food, transportation, crisis counseling, and educational assistance.
  • Manages day-to-day operation of shelter during midnight shift.
  • Always keeps shelter safe and secure and is responsible for the safety of residents.
  • Completes, scores, and submits all data testing information, measurements, and monthly statistics required for each service as dictated by the Shelter Manager.
  • Maintains confidential client files and agency statistics for program.
  • Answers crisis calls during midnight shift
  • Collects and maintains detailed statistical data pertaining to all calls
  • Provides crisis intervention and referrals as necessary for clients
  • Screens client appropriateness for shelter entrance when admission is needed
  • Completes intake of in-coming clients and children
  • Completes all resident paperwork and documents client files daily
  • Resolves client conflicts and misconduct when necessary
  • Participates in on-call rotation for shelter
  • Records, logs, and stores all material donations
  • Serves as an active and supportive team member and participates in work processes as identified
  • Maintains communication with Shelter Manager and alerts her to any major problems or high-risk situations
Non-essential Job Functions
  • Assists in office coverage when necessary
  • Assists in other areas such as shelter advocacy when needed
Requirements of Position Applicants
  • Possess a background in victim advocacy
  • Possess an understanding of domestic violence dynamics
  • Able to work independently
  • Able to utilize the resources available both in the community and in-house
  • Obtain CPR/ First Aid Training
  • Pass criminal background check
  • Willing to submit to random drug screenings
  • Willing to adhere to all shelter policies and procedures
  • Shares on call duty as directed by the Shelter Manager

  • Ability to use all office equipment (Microsoft included)
