As the Area Transportation & Safety Manager you will manage the logistics, driver records, DOT records, fleet maintenance along with driver and warehouse safety. A strong communicator, collaborating cross-functionally across the company, with a brand to lead and drive. This position will be responsible for all aspects of the company’s designated delivery and fleet initiatives, including control of scope and specifications, end-to-end schedule, budget, and directing actions of vendors conducting support of programs in the field.

PRIMARY DUTIES:
  • Provide direct support to district locations with scheduling, routing, tracking, and manpower assistance, in close partnership with local field leaders.
  • Coordinate work assignments and daily schedules with drivers and other department personnel.
  • Maintain and manage DOT compliance of all trucks and drivers, as assigned.
  • Manage and adhere to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR).
  • Maintain knowledge of assigned market area and provide the most efficient directions and routes possible for our drivers daily.
  • Ensure that proper information is listed on routing manifests and route schedules before drivers leave their facilities.
  • Review completed deliveries with drivers and leaders for accuracy and course correction as necessary.
  • Provide first-line supervision to the district team members.
  • Maintain a safe and secure environment with the goal of ensuring that all fleet employees work and return home safely.
  • Perform driver accident investigations in coordination with local management and the Manager of Fleet Safety and Compliance.
  • Coordinate warehouse and transportation shipping schedules.
  • Review employee paperwork to ensure accuracy.
  • Record and maintain all necessary files and records.
  • Perform training of employees for forklift certification.
  • Record and maintain all necessary files and records.
  • Make on-going inspections of facilities, equipment, and employee issues to ensure safe working conditions in all facilities.
  • Ensure facilities and operations are following various local, state, and federal safety regulations including OSHA in conjunction with the RSMs. Act as a subject matter expert, providing help and support throughout the organization.
  • Develop training and educational programs to help educate supervisory and line employees on proper safety and first aid programs and procedures.
  • Create, update and maintain corporate safety manuals for all facilities in accordance with safety regulations.
  • Review and analyze accident reports, metrics, and injury case studies in order to institute changes that lead to a safer work environment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate, or greater, degree and three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid driver’s license and/or CDL..
  • Ability to travel 40% of the time.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DOT medical certification.
  • Knowledge of all functional areas in the wholesale electrical distribution industry preferred.
  • Well versed in understanding and training of the FMCSA and its associated regulations
  • National Safety Council certification, preferred.
  • Complete OSHA 30 (minimum 10) Training.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain DOT and forklift certification.
