Position Summary
Under the direction of the Plant Manager, this position works independently or in conjunction with other engineers, value stream leaders, production leads, and production and maintenance personnel in analyzing and developing solutions to the manufacturing processes at our Holyoke, MA site. This includes design and development of new processes, modifications of existing processes, cost improvement initiatives, and quality improvement projects.
Responsibilities- Working independently or with others to develop improved methods for delivering finished products to our customers.
- Identifying and serving as the primary driver for cost improvement projects to remove costs from current and new operations.
- Serving as the primary technical lead for process and equipment improvement projects.
- Interacting with and overseeing equipment modifications, upgrades, and new installations from a technical perspective.
- Interacting with customers, T&I, Business Unit Leaders, and other Process Engineering functions to assist with process issues, quality concerns and to identify new or improved products or methods for delivering value-added products to customers.
- Staying abreast of new equipment and process developments in the Plastics Extrusion field.
- Communicating regularly to share combined knowledge with process engineers in other locations.
- Serving as an expert in troubleshooting manufacturing problems and identifying solutions with data‑based decision making.
- Developing work instructions and documentation to support standardized work in manufacturing.
- Identifying and implementing new or improved methods of manufacturing to improve profitability.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering required.
- 3–5 years of experience in Process Engineering.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with professional presentation and negotiation skills.
- Experience with varied manufacturing processes; plastic/foam extrusion and converting preferred.
- Knowledge of statistical techniques and tools, their use and interpretation.
- Ability to manage a project and process involving multiple manufacturing areas.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and focus on critical project parameters that determine success or failure.
- Knowledge of statistics and DMAIC methodology preferred.
- Experience with designed experiments, Lean Six Sigma, SPC or equivalent.
- Self‑starter capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
- This role operates in a Process Safety Management (PSM) regulated environment. Prior PSM experience is not required; however, candidates should be comfortable working in compliance‑driven settings with strict safety and regulatory standards.
- Attend and participate in monthly safety meetings.
- Report unsafe conditions or injuries immediately.
- Work around rotating equipment, hot polymers, and high‑noise environments.
- Required to wear safety shoes as well as standard PPE.
- Exposed to various chemicals throughout the site.
- Salary Range: $81,900 — $145,335
The range disclosed complies with applicable state and local pay transparency laws. Offers within this range will be determined by considering relevant factors including education, experience, and internal alignment.
