The Inpatient Pharmacy Department at Valley Children’s utilizes evidence-based therapeutic guidelines to provide exceptional pharmaceutical care to our patients. Our highly trained pharmacists and pharmacy technicians work side-by-side with providers and other interprofessional teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes, while utilizing state-of-the-art technology to maximize patient safety.
Inpatient Pharmacy provides clinical interdisciplinary pharmacy services in all inpatient areas including Rehab, PICU, NICU, Acute Care, and Oncology. We have numerous pharmacy advance practice protocols including antibiotic monitoring, anticoagulation, IV to oral conversion, and renal dosing. Other clinically supported services include the Emergency Department, Palliative Care, Investigational Drug oversight, and parenteral nutrition (including production).
Our team members also support the following specialty clinics:
Oncology, Hematology, Rheumatology, Pulmonology/CF, Endocrinology, Neurology, Cardiology and our complex primary care center. Many pharmacists hold collaborative practice agreements to optimize medication therapy management and collaborate to enhance patient care.
This position is accountable for providing safe and effective pharmaceutical care to neonates through young adulthood at Valley Children's Healthcare. Serves as pharmacology consultant, a patient advocate, and a fiscal conscience to the healthcare team while providing pharmacy services to meet the needs of patients/care providers, physicians, nurses and other healthcare team members. Processes safe and effective drug therapy beginning with the review of physician s orders through the administration and outcome of drug therapy and includes providing clinical pharmaceutical services.
The emphasis of this position is advanced pharmacy practice in a pediatric inpatient setting.
This role may require mixed shifts (days, evenings, overnights, weekends) as the inpatient pharmacy is operated 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Pharmacy staffing is structured to ensure medications are dispensed efficiently both routinely and emergently.
Qualifications Education- Doctor of Pharmacy Degree Doctorate of Pharmacy (required)
- Program ASHP Accredited Residency Program (preferred)
- RPH - Registered Pharmacist - CA-SBP - California State Board of Pharmacy California State Board of Pharmacy (required)
- PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support - AHA - American Heart Association PALS certification (Per Diem employees are exempt from this requirement). within 12 months of hire or transfer into position (required)
- BLS - Basic Life Support - AHA - American Heart Association BLS certification within 30 days of hire or transfer into position (required)
- Other - Other Board of Pharmacy Specialties Certification (preferred)
- ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support - AHA - American Heart Association Encouraged for those serving the PICU, Emergency Department and overnight shifts. within 12 months of hire or transfer into position (preferred)
- Preference given to candidates with PGY-2 with a focus in oncology and pediatrics
- Preference given to candidates with a minimum 2 years oncology experience in pediatrics
- 10 hour shifts. Mixed shifts, primarily days including some weekends with limited evenings or overnights
- The emphasis of this position is advanced pharmacy practice in a pediatric inpatient setting primarily serving hematopoietic cell transplant (HCT) including CAR-T and Bone Marrow Transplant. The pharmacist will support FACT accreditation including meeting the core competencies and required continuing education
- The pharmacist will support staff development and training including working with pharmacy students, PGY-1 and PGY-2 residents
