Position: TECH - PSYCHIATRIC (LIC)

Responsibilities

River Vista Behavioral Health is located along the bluffs overlooking the San Joaquin River. This brand new, 128‑bed facility will provide high‑quality and advanced behavioral health services to residents and visitors in the Central Valley. The new hospital will employ more than 250 people, including clinicians, nurses, mental health technicians, support staff and administration.

We are currently seeking a forward‑thinking and compassionate LVN/LPT to be part of our Nursing Team. The LVN/LPT administers nursing care to designated patients under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse and performs a variety of direct and indirect patient‑care duties.

Job Requirements
  • Graduate from an accredited Vocational School of Nursing or Psychiatric Technician program required; current licensure as a Licensed Vocational Nurse or Licensed Psychiatric Technician with the State of California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians.
  • BLS Certification.
  • Clinical experience in a psychiatric setting preferred.
  • CPR certification and successful completion of Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training (CPI training may be obtained during new hire orientation).
Knowledge / Skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to perform concentrated and/or complex mental activity with frequent involvement in complex and/or highly technical situations.
  • Ability to work successfully under highly stressful conditions.
  • Ability to make sound, independent judgments based on scientific and/or ethical principles.
  • Ability to comprehend and perform oral and written instructions and procedures.
  • Ability to collaborate with other multidisciplinary team members in an appropriate fashion.
  • Ability to adapt to varying workloads and work assignments on a constant basis.
  • Effective comprehensive reading skills, strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Math skills to enable calculation of drug dosages and infusion rates.
General Working Environment

Working conditions include a psychiatric hospital setting, some risk of aggressive patients, day, evening, night, weekend and/or holiday shifts. The LVN/LPT is occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, blood‑borne pathogens, and loud noise levels. Mental demands include remaining calm in a stressful environment and emotional stability, physical stamina, and agility to handle stress and respond quickly to emergency situations.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, staff and others.
  • Ability to utilize communication equipment.
  • Physical agility to manage patients (ambulatory, non‑ambulatory and physically aggressive).
  • Ability to read patient charts, written communication, regulations and written policies.
  • Ability to write manual charting and other written communication.
  • Conception and complete performance of Handle with Care techniques.
  • Occasional use of walking, fingering or manual dexterity, lifting up to 25 lbs, reaching or stretching, crouching or stooping, and smelling.
  • Frequent use of standing and vision correction for color discrimination and depth perception.
  • Regular use of sitting, speaking, hearing, and vision correction for close, distance and peripheral vision, and focusing ability.
  • Mental demands include emotional stability, physical stamina, and agility to handle stress and respond quickly to emergencies.
Equipment / Materials Used

Telephone, computer, tape player, copier, fax machine, video player, small hand tools and writing instruments, as well as all clinical equipment, including but not limited to syringes and blood pressure equipment.
