About the Unit
The pediatric inpatient post‑surgical unit, also known as Explorer, is a dynamic and fast‑paced 35‑bed unit specializing in post‑surgical care for patients across orthopedics, general surgery, cardiac, and neurology. With centralized monitoring, our dedicated staff ensures high‑quality care for every patient, offering an excellent opportunity for nurses to acquire diverse skills due to rapid turnover and patient variety.
The unit also plays a crucial role in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU), with 12 beds—6 for seizure monitoring and 6 for surgical overflow cases. Our EMU rooms are equipped with specialty equipment to monitor and visualize seizure activity, leading to improved treatment and better patient outcomes.

Job SummaryThe Registered Nurse (RN) is accountable for providing competent nursing care. Responsibilities include coordination of the patient’s plan of care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing interventions that lead to established outcomes. This position practices under the direction of the designated nurse executive, within the scope of the Nursing Practice Act, and in accordance with Valley Children’s Hospital policies.
QualificationsEducation
- Program accredited nursing program (required)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (preferred)
- RN – Registered Nurse License – CA‑BRN (required)
- BLS – Basic Life Support (required within 30 days of hire)
- PEARS – Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization (required within 12 months)
- Experience to correlate with Clinical Advancement Program (required)
- Bilingual skills preferred
The salary range listed reflects the RN I ladder level. The final salary range will be based on the RN ladder level into which the selected candidate is hired, as determined by qualifications, experience, and internal placement criteria.
