The HVAC Adjunct Instructor is responsible for delivering quality instruction in the Dorsey College HVAC Technician Program, ensuring that students develop the technical knowledge and hands‑on skills necessary for a successful career in the heating, ventilation and air conditioning trade. Instructors are expected to plan and deliver engaging lessons in both lecture and laboratory settings, monitor student progress, and address questions, concerns, and challenges in a timely and professional manner.

All instruction must be conducted in accordance with Dorsey College policies, program requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.

• Plan, prepare, and deliver quality classroom instruction in lecture, clinical, and/or laboratory format based on the approved course outline.
• Assess student learning using appropriate methods and demonstrate effectiveness with strong outcomes in student retention, success, and attendance.
• Conduct engaging classroom lectures and/or labs based on the course outline and motivate students by demonstrating sensitivity for concerns and involving them in discussions and activities.
• Advise students on attendance, grades, and issues to ensure successful completion of their course.
• Contact absentee students by text, email, and/or phone as needed to improve retention.
• Manage classroom environment through compliance with campus policies, including attendance, punctuality, and professionalism.
• Ensure instructor preparedness before class by listing required information on the white board: name, contact information, date, class name, day’s objectives, and next session objectives.
• Prepare supplies and equipment to ensure readiness prior to class and coordinate with campus personnel when issues arise.
• Participate in faculty, staff, committee, and in‑service meetings.
• Demonstrate professional growth in the subject through participation in professional associations, continuing education, related business experience, educational research, and awareness of current practices.
• Maintain legal and ethical conduct in all educational activities.
• Maintain continuous improvement by working within the Faculty Development Program guidelines and relevant performance criteria.
• Maintain employer relationships, including at least annual contacts with employers (at least one site visit).
• Actively support other departments such as Financial Aid, Admissions, and Career Services.

• Working knowledge of HVAC systems, including heating, cooling, ventilation, refrigeration, and indoor air quality.
• Working knowledge of EPA Section 608 refrigerant regulations, ASHRAE standards, and applicable local, state, and national mechanical codes.
• Knowledge of occupational safety standards including OSHA regulations and safe work practices.
• Proficient with basic office equipment, computers, and computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for explaining complex HVAC concepts to students of varying skill levels.
• Strong organizational and time‑management skills to manage multiple courses and responsibilities simultaneously.
• Ability to use emotional intelligence and attention to detail to identify struggling students and implement strategies to improve retention.
• Ability to maintain professional standards of conduct, confidentiality, and ethical behavior at all times.
• Ability to adapt to a dynamic educational environment and embrace continuous improvement.
• Ability to work independently and cooperatively with faculty, staff, and administration.
• Positive attitude, initiative, and creativity; ability to motivate staff.

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum two years of HVAC trade experience or equivalent.
• Completion of an HVAC Excellence trade program preferred.
• EPA Section 608 (Type
