$17.00/hour - $18.50/hour

DESCRIPTION

Madison District Public Schools is seeking a caring, dependable, and motivated Special Education Adult Transition Support Assistant to support students ages 18-26 with disabilities as they develop the academic, vocational, independent living, and social skills necessary for successful adult life. This position provides instructional, behavioral, and community-based support under the direction of the classroom teacher while promoting student independence and dignity.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree, college coursework, or successful completion of the Michigan paraprofessional requirements preferred.
  • Previous experience working with students or adults with disabilities preferred.
  • Experience supporting individuals in vocational, community, or independent living settings is highly desirable.
  • Valid Michigan driver's license with an acceptable driving record preferred.
  • Ability to obtain CPR/First Aid certification, CPI (or district-approved de-escalation training), and any other required certifications.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist students with individualized instruction in vocational, functional academic, daily living, communication, and social skills.
  • Support students during community-based instruction, job training, volunteer experiences, and work-based learning opportunities.
  • Assist with implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and behavior intervention plans.
  • Provide positive behavioral supports and reinforce appropriate social interactions.
  • Collect student data and document progress as directed by the supervising teacher.
  • Assist students with mobility, transfers, personal care, feeding, toileting, and other activities of daily living as needed while maintaining student dignity and privacy.
  • Support students in developing self-advocacy, decision-making, and independent living skills.
  • Assist with classroom organization, preparation of instructional materials, and maintaining a safe learning environment.
  • Supervise students during transportation, community outings, lunch, and other school activities as assigned.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with teachers, related service providers, families, employers, and community partners.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records and information in accordance with FERPA and district policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
