Purpose
The Electrical Designer (Harnesses) is responsible for designing, documenting, and supporting electrical wiring harnesses and cable assemblies for production and integration. This role translates electrical requirements into detailed, manufacturable designs while collaborating closely with electrical engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams. The position plays a critical role in ensuring harness designs are accurate, compliant, and production-ready.
Work Environment
This role operates in a professional office and production environment with regular interaction across engineering, manufacturing, quality, and operations teams. Time may be split between desk-based design work and supporting activities on the production floor.
Position Responsibilities Harness Design & Documentation- Create wiring harness and cable assembly designs based on electrical schematics and system requirements
- Develop detailed harness drawings, schematics, and manufacturing documentation
- Generate and maintain bills of materials (BOMs), wire lists, and pinouts
- Apply industry standards for wire sizing, labeling, shielding, and routing
- Work closely with electrical engineers to translate designs into detailed harness layouts
- Support manufacturing by addressing build questions and implementing design updates
- Participate in design reviews and support prototype builds and testing
- Maintain design files, revisions, and documentation within PLM/PDM systems
- Ensure harness documentation aligns with company standards, quality requirements, and configuration control
- Identify opportunities to improve harness design efficiency, standardization, and manufacturability
- Support process improvements related to electrical documentation and build practices
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Design, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- 2+ years of experience in electrical design, specifically wiring harnesses or cable assemblies
- Experience supporting manufacturing or production environments preferred
- Proficiency with electrical design tools (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, Solid Works Electrical, Capital, or similar)
- Strong understanding of wiring harness components, connectors, and cabling practices
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics and system requirements
- Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy
- Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers and cross-functional teams
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment
