Position SummaryMettle Ops is seeking an experienced Field Service Representative (FSR) – Shop Support (Mechanic/Technician) to support military vehicle and subsystem build efforts. This position is based in Madison Heights, Michigan, and requires limited travel within the continental United States to support fielding activities, training operations, and customer requirements.
This is a hands‑on role ideal for mechanically inclined professionals who enjoy diagnosing issues, performing repairs, and supporting the sustainment and modernization of military vehicle platforms and associated systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, repairs, upgrades, and modifications on military vehicle platforms, subsystems, and components.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues and implement corrective actions in real time.
- Execute retrofit activities and support vehicle integration efforts as required.
- Support government Material Fielding and Training (MF&T) activities at customer locations throughout the continental United States.
- Coordinate parts requests and logistics requirements through approved company processes and support personnel.
- Provide remote technical support for fielded vehicles and subsystems on an as‑needed basis.
- Operate and maintain shop equipment and tools in accordance with company procedures and safety requirements.
- Read and interpret technical manuals, engineering drawings, and military documentation to perform maintenance and repair activities.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and provide status updates to program leadership and customers.
- Ensure proper handling and disposal of materials in accordance with standard operating procedures and environmental requirements.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient work environment.
This position is based out of Madison Heights, Michigan, with occasional travel to customer sites and military installations throughout the continental United States. Work is performed in shop, warehouse, and field environments and involves hands‑on mechanical and electrical support of military vehicles and related systems.
Required Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of five (5) years of hands‑on technician experience in automotive, military, heavy equipment, agricultural equipment, or similar industries.
- Experience operating fabrication and machine shop equipment, including vertical mills, lathes, brakes, drill presses, and related tools.
- Proficiency in fabrication and welding techniques, including MIG, TIG, plasma cutting, fixturing, and related processes.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with experience supporting automotive, heavy truck, hydraulic, coolant, drivetrain, and powertrain systems.
- Ability to read and interpret U.S. Army Technical Manuals and engineering documentation.
- Understanding of dimensioning, tolerancing, and measurement practices associated with military engineering drawings.
