Ready to make a difference while keeping the fun going at Oakland County water parks? Under limited supervision, you will help maintain a safe swimming environment using established techniques taught during initial and weekly in‑service training. You will supervise water activities, enforce safety rules, respond to emergencies, and assist with general maintenance and cleaning.

• Supervise swimming and water activities to help ensure a safe environment for all patrons.
• Enforce safety rules and respond to emergency situations, including providing first aid and communicating with emergency personnel.
• Interact with patrons by answering questions and addressing concerns.
• Participate in weekly in‑service training to maintain valid lifeguard license requirements.
• Assist with general maintenance and cleaning duties.

• You will work in an active water park setting for the summer.
• You will play an important role in maintaining a safe and welcoming environment.
• You will stay prepared and confident through ongoing training.

• Supervises and monitors the daily swimming and water activities.
• Enforces safety rules.
• Maintains and ensures a safe swimming environment for all Oakland County Parks patrons using established techniques.
• Interacts with patrons by answering questions and addressing concerns.
• Actively participates in up to 4 hours of in‑service training per month to maintain valid lifeguard license requirements.
• Provides general customer service by interacting with patrons in a courteous manner, answering inquiries regarding directions, operations, and emergency procedures.
• Handles emergency situations that may arise during open operations, including providing first aid as necessary and communicating effectively with emergency personnel.
• Coordinates with emergency services, such as 911 and EMS/Fire personnel, effectively and verbally.
• Effectively uses provided warning services to control and assist patrons in emergency situations.

• Assists with the general maintenance of the water park equipment.
• May teach swim lessons to individuals of all ages.
• May be assigned to general cleaning duties which may include picking up loose litter, mopping floors, cleaning bathrooms, maintaining a 30‑minute bathroom check, pulling trash bags, weeding, and sweeping.

• Ability to complete a 200‑yard swim using crawl or breaststroke without resting.
• Feet‑first surface dive and retrieval of a 10‑pound brick from a minimum depth of 8 feet.
• Treading water for 2 minutes without using arms (hands above water).
• Exit pool without use of ladder, steps or zero‑depth exit.
• Vision standard: 20/25 corrected or uncorrected vision and near acuity, depth perception, ability to distinguish details closely and at a distance.
• Ability to listen, understand and distinguish sounds and speech and respond accordingly in the English language.
• Lifeguards must be able to perform rescue skills and demonstrate the ability to work efficiently within an established Emergency Action Plan.
• Participating in the ILTP requires lifeguards to be in good physical condition. Limitations that may present a health or safety hazard should be communicated to the facility/instructor.
