Job DescriptionJob Goal
:
To assist students with their academic responsibilities and encourage positive behavior modifications while assigned to in‑school suspension.
- High School diploma or GED
- Associate Degree or higher preferred
- Experience in working with school‑age children preferred
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

Required:
Upon offer of employment, employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Background checks must not be more than 10 years old.

- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Knowledge and understanding of the school system's rules and policies, administrative procedures, and state and federal rules and regulations.
- Notifies classroom teachers of each student(s) scheduled placement in ISS.
- Requests assignments and materials necessary for each student to complete required academic tasks.
- Provides instructional assistance and encouragement to students to complete their assignments.
- Collects the work to be completed by each student while assigned to ISS for distribution.
- Provides each student with assigned tasks and offers individualized instruction as necessary.
- Organizes each student's work and returns it to the classroom teacher for evaluation.
- Establishes and maintains a standard of student behavior to support a positive and productive learning experience.
- Confers with students individually and/or in groups to modify unacceptable behavior and emphasize positive skills.
- Effectively communicates to students the rules specific to In‑School Suspension.
- Maintains files on each student assigned to In‑School Suspension.
- Exhibits positive human relations skills.
- Communicates with teachers and administrators to best evaluate each student's academic and behavioral needs.
- Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policy, and state and federal rules and regulations.
- Demonstrates professional ethics and leadership.
- Alerts the teacher to special needs of individual students.
- Maintains confidentiality with regard to student performance and records.
- Communicates effectively with students, parents, teachers, and administrators.
- Attends and participates in staff development and training sessions.
- Clarifies the purpose, goals, and policies of the In‑School Suspension Program for teachers, parents, and students.
- This position will be subject to the Students First Act of 2011. Madison City Schools reserves the right to fill this position by transfer of a qualified applicant who is already employed by Madison City Schools.
- Under the Students First Act of 2011, no credit toward tenure or non‑probationary status is earned in the initial school year of employment if the date of hire occurs after September 30.
Expected Employment
: 187 days/8 hrs. (full year)

Salary
:
According to Madison City Schools Salary Schedule (Salary based on employment for complete year). Up to 10 years experience will be counted for new employees who provide documentation of full‑time experience in the area of concentration.
