Job DescriptionJob Goals: To help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, responsible members of society.
Qualifications- Minimum of a B.S. degree in the area of instructional responsibility.
- Alabama State Department of Education teaching certification in the area of instructional responsibility.
- Experience coaching in high school varsity or college football.
- Alternative qualifications deemed appropriate by the Board.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of state curriculum content standards and district educational goals.
- Knowledge of student academic progress toward stated objectives of instruction.
- Knowledge of school's program of studies.
- Skilled in oral and written communication.
- Ability to develop and implement lesson plans based on district and state courses of study.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, parents, colleagues and community members.
- Ability to use and manage technology.
- Knowledge of school system rules and policies.
- For a physical education teacher, sufficient athletic skills to demonstrate appropriate techniques.
- Ability to work outdoors and adapt to conditions.
- Physical and emotional ability to perform required work.
- Knowledge of Board policies and procedures.
- Assesses student abilities as related to educational goals.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials.
- Plans class activities and lessons that are age-appropriate.
- Establishes standards of student behavior.
- Identifies student needs and cooperates with staff.
- Maintains professional competence through in-service education.
- Demonstrates positive parent/community relations skills.
- Ensures confidentiality of student records.
- Participates in school-level planning, faculty meetings, and committees.
- Performs other duties assigned by supervisor.
- Assumes other responsibilities and equitable job-related duties.
- Establishes rapport with teachers, department heads, and staff.
- Participates in co‑curricular programs and community groups.
- Models appropriate personal characteristics and work habits.
- This position will be subject to the Students First Act of 2011.
- Under the Act, no credit toward tenure is earned in the initial school year if hire occurs after September 30.
- Expected Employment: 187 days (full year)
