Job Goals: To provide an approved elementary education program and establish a class environment that fosters learning and personal growth; to help students develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for continued education.

• Minimum of a B.S. Degree in the area of instructional responsibility required.
• Alabama State Department of Education Teaching Certification in the area of instructional responsibility required.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Code §§ 16-22A-5) Upon offer of employment, employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Background checks must not be more than 10 years old. A new background check is required for anyone new to Madison City Schools, regardless of the recency of the ABI and FBI background checks.

• Knowledge of state core curriculum content standards and district educational goals and objectives of instructional specialty to which assigned.
• Knowledge of student academic progress toward stated objectives of instruction.
• Knowledge of school's program of studies related to mission, goals and organization.
• Skilled and effective in oral and written communication.
• Ability to develop and implement lesson plans based on district and state courses of study in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the student.
• Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and community members.
• Ability to use and manage technology including, but not limited to, e-mail, internet, Microsoft Office Programs, CD-ROMS, DVDS, videos, etc.
• Knowledge and understanding of the school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policy, and state and federal rules and regulations.
• Possesses the physical and emotional ability to fulfill the contract period.

• Assesses student abilities as related to desired educational goals, objectives and student outcomes.
• Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
• Plans class activities and lesson presentations that are age-appropriate for the class and meet the individual needs, interests and ability levels of all students.
• Delivers instructional activities in a manner demonstrating a variety of instructional techniques, promoting positive interaction among students, and providing for appropriate practice of activities and skills focusing upon the desired learning outcomes.
• Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a classroom climate conducive to learning.
• Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and resolving learning problems.
• Maintains professional competence and continuous improvement through in-service education and other professional growth activities as required or assigned.
