Background Check

Required:

(Ala. Code §§ 16-22A-5) Upon offer of employment, employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Background checks may not be more than ten (10) years old.

• Demonstrated knowledge of student behavior in his/her area of exceptionality as well as policies and procedures relevant to program implementation and participation
• Knowledge to interpret assessment data, group students and develop methodologies and strategies conducive to individualized instructional needs
• Effective skills in oral and written communication to fulfill IEP requirements and communicate to students, parents, support agencies and other faculty and staff
• Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in a fast-paced, high-intensive work environment

• Conducts screening to identify students with communicative disorders
• Evaluates and diagnoses speech and language disorders
• Develops and implements individualized education plans to meet the unique needs of each student receiving therapy service
• Develops appropriate service delivery models to meet the needs of students
• Refers students to other professional and community agencies
• Consults with classroom teachers and other school personnel to facilitate carry-over of therapy gains into classroom activities
• Provides information, support, and guidance to parents/guardians and families
• Assists teachers in the identification of children with communicative disorders
• Maintains records for students evaluated and receiving services
• Informs administrators and other members of the educational team of program developments and student progress
• Engages in personal professional growth and demonstrates professional ethics and leadership
• Coordinates services with other school programs
• Demonstrates proficiency in written and oral communication
• Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policy, and state and federal rules and regulations
• Performs other related duties as assigned
• This position will be subject to the Students First Act of 2011. Madison City Schools reserves the right to fill this position by transfer of a qualified applicant who is already employed by Madison City Schools.
• Under the Students First Act of 2011, no credit toward tenure or non-probationary status is earned in the initial school year of employment if the date of hire occurs after September 30.

Expected Employment: 187 days (full year)

Evaluation: According to established Board policies and administrative procedures and guidelines.

Salary: According to Madison City Schools Salary Schedule (Salary based on employment for complete year)
