A Japanese company is seeking a hands-on Assembly Engineer to support projects from fabrication through final installation. This position is heavily focused on mechanical assembly and machine build, with additional involvement in fabrication, CNC machining, testing, and onsite installation support.
The ideal candidate will have strong assembly and fabrication experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment. Experience with CNC machining and G-code programming is preferred; however, basic CNC knowledge is acceptable if the candidate has strong mechanical assembly skills.
This role includes machine assembly, wiring and tubing installation, troubleshooting, CNC milling/drilling operations, and collaboration with engineering and manufacturing teams to deliver high-quality custom equipment.
Responsibilities- Support projects from kickoff through completion, including fabrication, assembly, testing, customer inspections, and onsite installation
- Perform mechanical assembly of machines, subassemblies, and production equipment
- Install and route electrical wiring, control cables, piping, and tubing systems according to schematics and layouts
- Perform leak testing and verify proper system operation
- Develop and modify CNC G-code programs from 2D drawings and 3D CAD models
- Perform CNC milling and drilling operations, including machine setup and tooling
- Fabricate and modify components using manual shop equipment and hand tools
- Conduct trial runs, troubleshooting, and functional testing
- Operate forklifts and overhead cranes safely for material handling and equipment positioning
- Support customer inspections, commissioning, and onsite service (approximately 10–15% travel)
- Work closely with engineering and manufacturing teams to improve quality and resolve issues
- 5–10 years of hands-on assembly, fabrication, or machining experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
- Strong mechanical assembly experience is required
- Basic CNC machining knowledge is acceptable; CNC programming experience is a plus
- Experience using manual fabrication equipment such as:
- Lathes
- Welding equipment
- Band saws
- Drill presses
- Manual milling machines
- Hand tools
- Ability to read and interpret 2D blueprints and 3D CAD models
- Understanding of GD&T and dimensional inspection preferred
- Strong troubleshooting and mechanical aptitude
- Ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams
- Commitment to safety, quality, and attention to detail
- Associate’s degree or technical diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, Machining, or related field preferred
